First Full Week

This past week has been amazing, and has set the tone for what's going to be an awesome summer.  After we arrived in Juneau, everybody went on the hunt for jobs, and I have luckily found one at a really neat place. I'm working at a bakery/restaurant/inn called the Silverbow in the middle of downtown next to the harbor, and just finished my 3rd day of working there.  I work from 6:00am to 4:00pm, and most of my day is spent preparing food. It's pretty fun, and all my co-workers are really nice.  And I get free lunch everyday! Woohoo. I'm looking forward to working there the rest of the summer.

Also this past week I have been backpacking, kayaking twice, and have played a lot of ultimate frisbee in our free time. There are tons of cool things to see in Juneau, it's awesome.  We have also had plenty of opportunities to serve in the community. We've been able to work at the soup kitchen downtown, volunteer at a local children's Bible camp, and do some extensive yard work for several families in the community.  Everyone is so gracious in Juneau--the people we have interacted with so far are so hospitable and really make us feel at home. One family has even volunteered to prepare lunch for us every single Sunday after church this summer!

Each night consists of some type of meeting. On Monday's we have men's time and then different committee meetings (I'm on a committee in charge of finding ways to engage and minister to the Native Americans in Juneau). Tuesdays are also men's time, and then on Wednesdays we have our weekly meeting which many natives come to, and consists of worship and a speaker. The weekly meetings cast a vision for Juneau natives who will be responsible for carrying on our mission after we leave, which is for the Gospel to be in arms reach of every person in Southeast Alaska.  I'm so excited to see how the Lord is going to work in the lives of the people in Juneau, and I am thrilled that He is letting me be a part of it.  Thursdays are Bible study nights and then Fridays are devoted to spending time with our "action groups," which are groups of 6 guys who all share the same apartment with 2 staff members. Saturdays and Sundays are free, but are generally spent doing some sort of service project or community outreach.

So yea, that pretty much sums up what has been happening this past week. I really would like to again thank all of you who are supporting me this summer. I am so grateful for you're contributions, and will continue to update you on my experiences so that you can see how your willingness to give is impacting both the community and my own life as well.
